Florida State University Intramural Sports Complex aka "Rec Sportsplex"
This project provided a new 104-acre Intramural Complex for Florida State University. The completed facility provides for (12) Football fields, (5) Softball fields, (4) Sports Club/Soccer fields, a softball control building, a football and soccer control building and maintenance building. Extensive work on installation of the irrigation system was required for the sports fields, including the drilling of two on-site wells and a retention pond that collects runoff and holds it on-site to create a closed basin. Baycrest worked closely with the Department of Environmental Protection on a number of tasks, including protecting wildlife inhabiting the site prior to and during construction. The lighting system, considered a "Green" system by Musco, includes 459 - 1500-watt fixtures on 47 poles, allowing the University to remotely control the entire complex and is projected to save over $1 million dollars in operating and maintenance costs over the 25 year life cycle in comparison with other available systems.
